Questions & Answers
Are your products suitable for all skin types?
All Olivanna products are gentle on skin and pH-balanced, making them suitable for all skin types. Our formulas have been developed to address the needs of women’s changing skin as they evolve through time, from dehydration and sensitivity to loss of firmness, fine lines and wrinkles.
Can I use your products throughout pregnancy?
Our products are developed and tested to be safe for use within the recommended guidance, in accordance with regulations. It is important to note that Olivanna do not formulate with retinol or any of its derivatives, which are not recommended for use during pregnancy. We always recommend that you discuss adapting your skincare regime during pregnancy with your GP or midwife.
Is your range suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?
Whilst we have taken the utmost care to develop formulas that are gentle on skin, our products aren’t hypoallergenic. If you’re concerned that your skin might react, we’d recommend performing a patch test on a small area of skin to check for sensitivity.
Are your products paraben-free and sulfate-free?
Olivanna’s entire product range is free from parabens and sulfates. Why? Whilst sulfates and their derivatives are used to create a lather to remove dirt, oil and impurities, they can sometimes cause sensitivities in skin. Instead, our Rosewater & Chamomile Cream Cleanser contains 0% sulfates and uses plant-based cleansers that respect the integrity of skin.
Are your products natural?
Every Olivanna product contains a minimum of 97% natural or naturally derived ingredients. The latter refers to ingredients that come from natural sources but have been processed to enhance their effects, such as emulsifiers Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate, which are derived from olive oil. We aim to use as many natural ingredients as possible, often exceeding our 97% target. We do allow some flexibility for synthetic raw materials that are essential for the formula, such as preservatives or for ingredients that are commonly found within our bodies, such as vitamins.
Do your products contain preservatives?
We formulate in accordance with regulations and as such all of our formulas do contain preservatives that are tested to ensure the efficacy of our products and the safety of our customers. Whilst we are paraben and sulfate free and strive to formulate with 97% natural ingredients, preservatives are essential for protecting the lifespan of our skincare products.
Do your products contain fragrance?
Yes, except for our Bakuchiol Restoring Eye Cream, which is fragrance-free to avoid irritation to the delicate eye area. All Olivanna products contain our signature fragrance – a custom blend developed in partnership with our founder and a global fragrance house. Our signature scent is 100% natural and is inspired by wild cornflower meadows in the English countryside.
Are your formulas free from toxic ingredients and nasties?
There are strict rules and regulations surrounding cosmetics in the UK. The European Parliament requires that ingredients – and the final cosmetic product – must be safe to use. Compliance is mandatory and Olivanna London strictly follows the directives, meaning our products and the ingredients used in our formulas are safe.
Are your products clean?
Currently, the definition of ‘clean’ within the beauty industry is a little misleading. Olivanna products are free from parabens, sulfates, PEGs, silicone, petrochemicals and plastics.
Is your skincare range cruelty-free?
At Olivanna, we never test our products on animals or use ingredients tested on animals, in line with UK-legislation.
Are your products vegan?
Yes, Olivanna products are vegan. We do not use animal or animal-derived ingredients in our formulas.
Is your packaging recyclable?
At Olivanna, we are continuously exploring ways to reduce our ecological impact and carbon footprint. Our bottles and jars are crafted from glass which is 100% recyclable. Once your product is finished, simply rinse the container and recycle with your standard glass recycling system. Whilst our pumps and lids are not currently recyclable, we are continuously exploring more sustainable alternatives.
Our unit cartons are made from FSC-certified board and are 100% recyclable. They are printed with vegetable-based inks and water-based coatings which have a reduced environmental impact.
Are Olivanna products made in the UK?
Olivanna is a British born brand. Our formulas are tested and developed in London and our products are manufactured in England. We are continuously exploring British botanicals and ingredients and when we identify them make it a priority to champion them in our products. Our formulas currently contain extracts from UK-grown Elderflower, English Rose, Bramley Apple and wild Scottish Heather within our Signature Four Seasons blend, as well as UK-grown seed oils like borage, camelina and blackcurrant.
What is the shelf life of your products?
All cosmetic products need to be used by a certain period after the first use. This is indicated by the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol – an open jar with a number inside, which you’ll find on our packaging and unit cartons. For example, ‘6M’ indicates you should use the product within 6 months of opening, after which the quality of the product will deteriorate.
Always make sure to store your products in a cool area, away from light and humidity to increase their longevity.
Where can I find the list of ingredients contained in your products?
Our ingredient lists are all readily available on our website and can be viewed directly on each product page. You will also find them printed on our unit cartons.
