The SPF 50 That Helps Keep the Oceans Clean - Our Pledge

Posted 15.05.2023

It is estimated by scientists that up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen washes off our skin and goes into the ocean every year. Many SPF’s contain two particular chemicals – oxybenzone and octinoxate, which are detrimental to coral in the ocean.

Here at Olivanna we strive to be as sustainable as possible hence why most of our products and packaging are recyclable, we only ever use the highest-quality natural ingredients, and we have planted 3,437 trees to date in partnership with Greenspark. With our newest launch – Sun Defence Drops SPF 50 – our sustainability continues.

Our brand-new Sun Defence Drops is a mineral-based SPF that is reef-safe and contains no harmful chemicals that damage our ecosystem. You can care for your skin and stay protected knowing that your causing harm to our oceans.

Furthermore, we are proud to be partnered with Greenspark – an environmental organisation committed to tackling the greatest challenges the world is facing today which is climate change - on a new pledge. For every Sun Defence Drops SPF 50 that we sell throughout the first month of launch, we will be rescuing 10 plastic bottles from the ocean.

Greenspark’s Plastic Bank Scheme gives those living in poverty-stricken countries the opportunity to collect plastic from the oceans in exchange for tokens that can go towards basic necessities including food, education, and health insurance.

The pledge comes at a time when plastic pollution is a major concern for the environment. Every year, millions of plastic bottles end up in the ocean, damaging marine life and polluting our planet. By rescuing 10 plastic bottles per SPF 50 sale, we are taking steps towards reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
